The new US duties on the products of dozens of world economies, outlining the new commercial order hoped for by the American president Donald Trump, entered into force at midnight in Washington (the 6 today in Italy).
“Billions of dollars, mostly coming from countries that have profit from the United States with enthusiasm, will begin to flow to the USA,” Trump said on his social truth a few minutes before the deadline.
The duties taken today fall within a large range, between 15% and 41%. The EU, Japan and South Korea, which are among the main commercial partners of the USA, are now subject to a rate of at least 15%.
These rates replace, for the economies concerned, the duties of 10% applied from April on practically all the products in entrance to the United States. According to the American president, the goal is to rebalance the trade between the USA and its partners, who saying “benefit” of the main world economic power.
