The European Commission proposes to reduce emissions by 90% by 2040 compared to 1990 levels as an intermediate stage for climatic neutrality by mid -century.
This is foreseen by the climatic target at 2040 adopted by the European executive which, as anticipated, offers governments a series of flexibility options for achieving the lens. Among these, the appeal starting from 2036 to international carbon compensation credits in the calculation of emissions: the EU will be able to purchase ‘credits’ from green shares carried out abroad to a maximum share of 3% of the EU’s net emissions in 1990.
