Cosenza returns to the barricades. This morning from 11, the Popular Movement will bring families, farmers, fishermen, breeders, associations, students, movements and local administrators from all over the region to Piazza Loreto to ask with one voice to stop the crisis that risks sinking a Calabria already tilted on its side. In this southern part of Italy it is difficult to remain standing. We are fighting against high fuel prices and to save the local economy. «The whole of Italy takes to the streets alongside us to ask for immediate intervention against the price increases and we make a firm appeal to all the institutions to remain close to the world of agriculture, fishing and road transport, in a moment of profound economic difficulty for all Italian families», say the organizers.
The journey into the trenches of Cosenza had already begun on October 1st with the procession promoted by “La Base”, the collective of movements that leads the resistance to poverty. Yesterday afternoon, the second appointment with the permanent garrison and the citizen assembly with the presence of the farmers’ tractors. A protest that took shape in a Piazza Europa initially hit by rain on a Friday afternoon with a gray and humid sky. A gathering of people and ideas to try to stop the surrender of farmers, fishermen and families unable to move forward.
