The city of Messina marks an important national milestone with the completion of the redevelopment works of the premises of the former Seguenza depot, where the fifth “Casa dei Rider” in Italy takes shape.

The Metropolitan City has completed maintenance work on the ground floor of the complex, as part of a program to enhance public heritage, aimed at restoring safe, functional and welcoming spaces to the community, consistent with new social needs.

Institutions and trade unions on site inspection

The inspection was attended by the Metropolitan Mayor Federico Basile, the Deputy Metropolitan Mayor Flavio Santoro, the General Director of Palazzo dei Leoni Giuseppe Campagna and the Chief of Staff Lalla Parisi, together with the trade union representatives Pietro Patti (General Secretary of CGIL Messina), Ivan Calì (General Secretary of Nidil CGIL Messina) and Maurizio Riposo (Secretary of FILT CGIL Messina).

A defense for the dignity of work

The “Casa dei Rider” was born from the need to protect and enhance food delivery workers, an increasingly central sector in the daily life of the city.

The project responds in particular to the request of FILT CGIL Messina to create a safeguard for the dignity of riders, promptly accepted by Mayor Basile who accelerated the implementation times of the interventions. The works involved the arrangement of the internal spaces, including the entrance and toilets, the flooring, the revision of the fixtures and the adaptation of the systems, in full respect of the original structure.

Services and logistical support

With the next opening, the city will offer a concrete point of reference for riders, guaranteeing a protected place, dedicated services and logistical support between one delivery and another.

The creation of the “Casa dei Riders” was made possible thanks to a partnership agreement between the former Province, CGIL Metropolitan Chamber of Labor of Messina (leader), FILT CGIL Messina, Nidil CGIL Messina, Casa dei Riders Messina APS and Confesercenti Messina.

Mayor Basile’s statements

“Creating a headquarters dedicated to food delivery workers – declared Basile – is a commitment that I have personally undertaken with the utmost determination to give dignity to those who work in a sector that is now essential for the city. The upcoming opening of the “Casa dei Riders” is the realization of the Metropolitan City’s commitment to creating safe, functional spaces capable of protecting the dignity of those who contribute to economic life with their work every day”.

With the opening of the new headquarters, Messina confirms itself at the forefront in the national panorama for the protection of riders, transforming a public good into a concrete tool for social cohesion, protection of workers’ rights and community inclusion.
