A report on the hydrogeological situation of the Capocolonna promontory to verify the possibility of drawing funding to stop the erosion that threatens the column of the temple of Hera Lacinia. This is what the Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli asked Filippo Demma, director of the Institute of Archaeological Parks of Crotone and Sibari during the visit to Crotone. Giuli, visited a part of the park, extended to 50 hectares, and in particular the area where the only remaining column of the Greek temple stands and the area of the excavations started in the context of the Antica Kroton project.
“I saw something exceptional that I already knew – said Giuli leaving the museum of the archaeological park -. One of the most important sites in the whole Mediterranean. And above all I took the measures of an extraordinary project that will take place with a precision that even in Switzerland manage to have, with a large commitment of resources by the Ministry, by the local authorities, by the Region. An example of good governance of culture and care of the territory in one of the most important places of antiquity and identity of the Mediterranean, Calabria “.
The minister also underlined “the efficiency” of the archaeological parks of Crotone and Sibari: «We are in a phase of great design. After so little time, we already witness the project and we already see what will soon be the Park of the ancient Kroton. The work is in progress and there will be another work comparable to this, not only in Crotone. There is Sibari, there are other places. Calabria is within our range of action and interest, so on this you can be sure, you will meet again not only for electoral reasons ».
From the minister also a polemic underlining. “Culture – he said – is not a manger as Renzi said, let’s leave it in peace, Renzi. Culture is a civil duty. It is a civil duty, it is a public mission that engages us in all our days and makes us proud to serve the communities, cities and places like Crotone that reject, reborn and see projects to go on beyond any daily political controversy ». “They begin to see the facts – continued the minister – of the economic commitments that translate into executive projects, in construction sites, in people who work and in a citizenship that begins to look at results, also of cultural and urban regeneration of the Crotone quadrant. We started dialogue with the Mase on the redevelopment and reclamation of the northern neighborhood of ancient Kroton we are saying that there will be an area reclaimed by pollution and open to research and excavations. Do you understand the importance of this? ».
Just on the Antica Kroton project, Minister Giuli reassured: «It is all in order for the part that competes with us, but it is all in order even in the part that does not only compete in the ministry. Everything proceeds according to the chrono-program ». To accompany Giuli on the visit to the Archaeological Park of Crotone there were the Undersecretary inside Wanda Ferro, the prefect of Crotone Franca Ferraro and the mayor Vincenzo Voce.
