The councilor for Productive Activities of the Municipality of Crotone Maria Bruni continues its activities to identify interventions that can be activated to increase the well-being of fishermen and conserve marine ecosystems. He discussed it in Cariati with the president of the GAL Pesca “Calabria Jonica” Cataldo Minò in order to launch – with maximum sharing with fishermen and their cooperatives – the EMFF European Fund for Maritime Affairs, Fisheries, Aquaculture, programming aimed at fishing and aquaculture

The municipal administration will focus, first of all, on strengthening employment, supporting generational turnover also with new activities, involving younger people in approaching the world of fishing. Furthermore, adds councilor Bruni, another objective will be to positively influence the future of the current fishing fleet with the modernization of equipment for the transformation and marketing of local fish and the treatment of waste.

EMFFA offers the opportunity to adapt areas for the direct sale of local fish products for both fresh and cooked products and the Municipality of Crotone intends to promote gastronomic excellence and give it the right value. In fact, the knowledge of local productions and the tasting of local fish, adds councilor Bruni, could become a component of tourist circuits; to the cultural heritage of the city, producers-restaurateurs-processors will combine the traditions of fishing and seafood cuisine.

The opportunities offered by the European Union can have an effective economic and employment impact, states Bruni, only by encouraging cooperation and connecting the different forces of the territory in order to increase competitive development also in the fishing sector
