The Olympic flame of Milan Cortina has landed in Calabria, coming from Sicily, for the 14th stage of the long journey that will take it to Lombardy on 5 February 2026. After crossing the Strait, the flame arrived in Reggio Calabria.
The route through the historic center and the City Celebration
After having traveled the long route, with the torchbearers taking turns carrying the “fire of Olympia” which crossed the main city arteries, involving the entire historic centre, the Olympic procession reached Piazza De Nava, overlooking the National Archaeological Museum where the Riace Bronzes are kept, where the “city celebration” took place, a party which involved thousands of people from Reggio, especially young people.
The guests and the memory of the 1960 Olympics
Many guests attended, including Vittorio Latella from Reggio, who showed the torch he carried between Reggio Calabria and Motta San Giovanni on the occasion of the 1960 Rome Olympics.
The authorities present on stage
Speaking on the stage of the “city celebration” were the regional president of Coni Tino Scopelliti, the vice mayor of Reggio Calabria Domenico Battaglia with the delegate for sport Giovanni Latella, that of the Metropolitan City Carmelo Versace and the councilor for sport of the Calabria Region Eulalia Micheli, who brought greetings from the Calabria Region and the president Roberto Occhiuto.
The next stops in Calabria
Tomorrow the torch will pass through Gioia Tauro, Rosarno, Vibo Valentia, before arriving in Catanzaro in the afternoon. On Sunday he will be in Cosenza.
