Ryanair, Europe’s No. 1 airline, welcomed its second Reggio-based aircraft today (5 November), launching 7 new winter routes – just 6 months after opening the base and starting operations in May 2024 This growth was possible thanks to the strategic decision of the Calabria Region to eliminate the municipal surtax, thus allowing Ryanair to rapidly increase its capacity and exploit all the tourism potential of the Region.

Ryanair’s investment, which amounts to a total of $200m (equivalent to the two aircraft based) in Reggio, will allow it to operate 80 weekly flights on 13 routes, including 7 brand new winter connections to the most popular holiday spots in the city – Brussels, Frankfurt, Katowice, London, Milan, Paris, Pisa – offering Reggio customers unbeatable choice and year-round connections to Europe at the lowest prices.

Ryanair’s schedule for winter 2024 in Reggio includes:

2 aircraft based – investment worth $200m

13 routes, including 7 new ones

Over 300,000 passengers per year

Over 300 jobs

To celebrate the arrival of the new Reggio-based aircraft, the company has launched a promotion with fares starting from just €21.99 for travel until the end of January.

Fabrizio Francioni, Head of Communications Italy at Ryanair, from Reggio Calabria said:

“Ryanair is delighted to celebrate growth at its Reggio base this winter, with record operations featuring 80 weekly flights across 13 routes, including 7 exciting new connections to Brussels, Frankfurt, Katowice, Milan, Paris and Pisa. This growth reflects Ryanair’s commitment to Reggio, with the addition of one aircraft this winter, bringing the total to two Reggio-based aircraft and supporting more than 300 jobs in the region. Ryanair is also thrilled to reward its 200,000th passenger, Maksym Sydorenko with a voucher to fly to/from Reggio, valid for any of our destinations, inviting him/her to sit on board, relax and enjoy flights with Ryanair. We hope to carry an ever-increasing number of passengers on Ryanair’s low-cost flights to/from Reggio Calabria in the coming years.”

Marco Franchini, Sole Director of SACAL, commented:

“The arrival of the second Ryanair aircraft in Reggio Calabria further strengthens our commitment to an integrated and strategic connection network, which allows passengers to benefit from comfortable and frequent flights. The new winter routes from Reggio match this vision, offering users the possibility of flying to destinations such as Brussels on alternating days, effectively doubling the travel options to and from Calabria. This expansion not only facilitates travel, but consolidates domestic and international connectivity, to the benefit of the economy and of local tourism”.
