What was supposed to be a quiet day of the sea has turned into tragedy for a 66 -year -old tourist, originally from Francavilla Angitola but residing in Milan for many years. The man, CS his initials, was on vacation in the Vibonese and this morning he had reached the Napitino coast by bus.
The drama took place when some swimmers noticed the lifeless body lying on the shoreline and immediately gave the alarm. According to the first reconstructions, a sudden illness would have caught him while in the water, making him inhale water and causing suffocation.
On the beach there were three nurses and a 118 doctor, who immediately started the resuscitation maneuvers and practiced cardiac massage for over half an hour, unfortunately without outcome. The Coast Guard and the Carabinieri of Pizzo also intervened on the spot.
Identification was not immediate: the man was alone, without documents, and had only a towel with him, a few coin, the cell phone and the bus ticket for the return. The military thus reviewed the umbrellas and, thanks to the latest calls on the phone, they managed to contact the family members and inform them of the tragedy.
The body was transported to the morgue of the Vibo Valentia hospital.
