The group leader of the 5 Star Movement in Calabria Elisa Scutellà unites the majority and opposition in the Regional Council on the strengthening of the Sibari-Paola.
“The motion aims to reduce the isolation of the upper Ionian Sea by strengthening the Sibaritide–Paola railway route, currently characterized by low frequency of trips, unreliable connections and a service perceived as insufficient by around 50% of users.”
Elisa Scutellà specifies: “Paola is the hub that connects the Ionian area to high speed, but the current offer prevents citizens from benefiting from it, often forcing them to use private transport with negative effects on travel times, congestion and environmental impact.”
“The first Frecciarossa on the Upper Ionian Cosenza arrived in 2020, during the Conte II Government, the first commercial high-speed service on the Calabrian Ionian coast, but it’s not enough.”
“If the second pair of Frecciarossa trains is not yet there, it is clear that so far Minister Salvini’s political will to transform the territory’s requests into a concrete decision has been lacking”
Scutellà concludes: “The motion, approved today in the Regional Council, asks the Council to take action with Trenitalia to increase daily trips, remodulate the frequencies in the peak periods and plan additional train kilometres, so as to guarantee a regular, competitive and finally adequate service to the needs of the territory. It is an act of territorial equity and strengthening of the right to mobility.”
