Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and former US President Donald Trump spoke during their phone call yesterday about a possible upcoming meeting but “it is too early to talk about it” and “the respective staffs will agree on times and details when possible.”
Zelensky’s spokesman, Sergiy Nikiforov, said this today at a press conference, quoted by the Ukrainian press, providing new details of the “historic” conversation that took place yesterday. “It was a good conversation in the spirit of mutual respect,” he commented. Zelensky urged Trump not to believe “those who try to justify in any way the actions of the Russian dictator Putin. There are no excuses, he is a murderer, the president explained to him,” according to Nikiforov’s account. In addition, “he told him about the latest Russian attack that yesterday in Mykolaiv killed more Ukrainian civilians.” “I spoke with Donald Trump,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram last night. “I congratulated him on the Republican nomination and condemned the horrendous assassination attempt in Pennsylvania. I wanted to be reassured for the future. I stressed the vital importance of bipartisan and bicameral American support to protect the freedom and independence of our nation. Ukraine will always be grateful to the United States for its help in strengthening our ability to resist Russian terrorism. Russian attacks on our cities and villages continue every day. We agreed with Trump to discuss in a personal meeting what steps can make peace just and truly lasting.”
Trump: “I will end the war”
I had a very good conversation with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky: “as the next president, I will bring peace to the world and put an end to the war that has cost many human lives and has devastated many innocent families.” Donald Trump said this on Truth.
“I had a good phone conversation with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine. He congratulated me on the Republican convention and on becoming the Democratic nominee. He condemned the heinous assassination attempt that happened last Saturday,” Trump said. “I appreciate President Zelensky reaching out to me because, as the next president of the United States, I will bring peace to the world and end the war that has cost so many lives and devastated so many innocent families. Both sides will come together and negotiate a deal that will end the violence and pave the way for prosperity.”
