The meeting between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has concluded at the White House. This was reported by White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, who in a message published on X defined the conversation as “positive and productive”.
Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth and special envoy Steve Witkoff also took part in the summit. The composition of the US delegation was confirmed by the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, based on images released by the Israeli prime minister’s office.
Netanyahu was accompanied by National Security Council head Shmuel Ben Ezra, Israeli Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter, Chief of Staff Ido Norden, Military Secretary Guy Markizano, Foreign Policy Advisor Ophir Falk and International Affairs Advisor Caroline Glick.
New crackdown on asylum seekers
At the same time, the Trump administration announced a new crackdown on immigration, with a measure that aims to speed up the expulsion procedures of asylum seekers. According to the Washington Post, the plan would allow repatriation proceedings to be initiated directly against hundreds of thousands of people, with the risk, in many cases, of deportation without a hearing.
The declared objective is to reduce the burden of over 1.4 million asylum applications still pending by around a third. Until now, applicants who had entered the United States legally or who were not accused of violating immigration rules could present their application to the competent offices and, in case of rejection, have their case examined by an immigration court as part of the deportation procedure.
With the new provision, however, approximately 444,724 cases could be transferred directly to immigration judges, who have been given the power to dismiss proceedings without the need for a hearing.
