«We have long followed the Russian operations against the EU and the President of the Commission. The independent fact-keckers have clearly identified these operations in the context of the censorship motion ». This is reported by Thomas Regnier, one of the spokespersons of the European Commission.
The motion of no confidence against the president of the EU Commission had been presented by the Romanian Eurodepieputato, vice president of the ECR group, Gheorghe Pierrea, and signed by 77 other MEPs of several political groups of the Extreme European right. On July 10, this motion was rejected by the Strasbourg plenary with 360 votes against and 175 in favor. Already at the time, three days before the vote, opening the debate in the classroom, Ursula von der Leyen said that that motion had been “signed by Putin’s friends”. “They are movements fueled by conspiracies and conspiracysumes, who want to polarize our societies, flooding them of disinformation”, were his words. Today, however, a spokesman for the Commission goes further: in light of the work of independent facts – announces the spokesperson – that motion must be inserted in the context of “Russian operations against the EU and its president”, which Brussels “has been following for some time”.
