The commitment to the internationalization of the course of study in management engineering of the University of Calabria (Unical) is consolidated with the start of significant mobility opportunities for its students. Thanks to an increasingly tighter collaboration with the Internationalization Area of University, two short -lived intensive programs that will involve a total of 15 students in the United States will start in the coming months. Ten of them will attend the College of Staten Island of the City University of New York (Cuny), while five others will be guests of the Manhattan Institute of Management in New York. These projects are entirely financed and structured as part of the Erasmus+program.
To celebrate the beginning of this semester of great mobility, the “IG Around the World” day was held, an event that brought together all the 30 students involved in various mobility programs. The meeting was also an opportunity to formally inaugurate the Summer School on the theme “New Trends and Applications on Science & Business Analytics”, which will take place between July and August with three weeks of study at the College of Staten Island in New York.
The event was attended by key figures such as the Francesca Guerriero (Director of the Dimeg), Giusy Ambrogio (coordinator of the course of study in management engineering), Gianpiero Barbuto (head of the internationalization area and creator of the programs), Bruna La Rosa (administrative contact person of the short term programs of the internationalization area), and numerous teachers of the Academy and guests of the CSI.
Exponential growth in internationalization: Anvur data confirm success
Professor Giusy Ambrogio underlined the important growth of the course of study in terms of internarationalization. “As a course of study, we are strongly oriented to promote mobility opportunities for our students, in the belief that an international experience represents a fundamental lever for professional and personal growth, as well as for the development of an open, global, innovation -oriented Mindset ‘,” he said. He added that these results would not be possible “without a competent organizational direction, capable of dialogue with European agencies that make these experiences possible thanks to the financing of Erasmus bags. The merit therefore also goes to the extraordinary work done by the internationalization area of the University”.
The growth path is tangible and confirmed by the official data of the Anvur relationship. The UNICAL management engineering course has recorded a considerable increase in the percentage of university training credits (CFU) achieved abroad by regular students:
• For the three -year degree, it went from 0% in 2019 to 7.3% in 2023 (practically in line with the national average of 7.4%).
• For the master’s degree, the percentage rose from 30% to 45%. In particular, in 2024, 20% of UNICAL Master’s graduates in Management Engineering obtained at least 12 credits abroad during the regular path of studies, a result that testifies to the effectiveness of mobility policies.
The unique leader of the Great project for multidisciplinary internships
Gianpiero Barbuto also expressed great satisfaction with the work done: “Over the years we have built a solid and effective collaboration with the course of study in management engineering, and we are extremely proud of the results achieved”. Barbuto highlighted the high participation in the University’s mobility calls, with over 2500 overall questions, of which a hundred questions only for the Mim Traineeship program in New York. “But the real novelty – he said – is that the participants in this program will carry out their internship in multidisciplinary and inter -university classes, together with students from five Italian universities, partner of the consortium, the only example in Italy”.
In fact, the Mim Traineeship program is part of the European Great project – “Gaining a Robust Education ACROSS TRAINEESHIPS”, of which the University of Calabria is leader and national coordinator. The Consortium, financed for the seven -year period 2021–2027, is made up of seven Italian universities (including the University of Cagliari, Tuscia, Messina, Teramo, Sannio and Parma) and two Calabrian organizations. The goal of the project is to offer high quality Erasmus+ internship paths, deeply training and capable of preparing young people to face the world of work with global work and global vision.
With these initiatives, the Degree Course in Management Engineering is confirmed as one of the protagonists of the internationalization strategy of the University of Calabria, consolidating a virtuous path that focuses on the growth of students and the projection of the University in an increasingly European and global dimension.
