In recent days, on the Transpolis track in Saint-Maurice-De-Rémens (France), the Formula Student France 2025 took place, an international university competition for racing cars to which the Zancle E-Drive Team was an Italian group to participate. Zed, coordinated by prof. Francesco Longo (Department of Engineering of the University of Messina), competed in the category of electric mobility of the French edition 2025.
The Student (FS) formula is a prestigious university competition in which teams of students from all over the world are testing in the design of single -seater prototypes in formula style, pushing themselves to the limits of electric mobility, hydrogen and driverless. Between January and February, the selections for admission to the editions of the Formula Student in various European countries took place; The team passed the technical tests in all four competitions in which he participated (France, Spain, Greece, Italy) and then opt for the transalpine nation.
In the last week of August, a representation of the team went to the Transpolis circuit, near Lyon, to present the single -seater project in the static tests of the concept design race (3C). Giovanni Lombardo and Angelo Siracusa, as Team Leaders, together with Federica Galletta, Marco Smiroldo, Alessandra Lombardo, Alessandro Pettignelli and Egidio La Spisa Provence, responsible for the mechanical and electronic departments, discussed and defended the design choices before the judges of the design event and the cost event. The prototype developed by the team consists of an electric single-seater equipped with all-wheel drive (4 in-wheel and torque vectoring engines for the management of the torque on each wheel), speed reducers and custom inverters, battery pack consisting of 560 cells with a capacity of 6 kWh, a total nominal power of 43 kW and predisposition for autonomous driving.

The young people present in France fought with French, German, Spanish and Portuguese teams and received the sincere appreciation of the judges, who recognized the hard commitment made by the team – new in this competitive reality – in mechanical and electronic design, the consistency of the technical choices adopted and the professionalism shown. The judges also underlined the pride of the group for their roots: Zancle, in fact, is the ancient name of Messina.
Among the team prerogatives there is to collaborate, mainly, with Sicilian companies for the construction of the various components of the single -seater, thus strengthening the link with the territory.
