«Between a woman with a long skirt and a woman with a short skirt, I always prefer a woman without a skirt». This is the phrase pronounced by the leader of FnV, Roberto Vannacci, during his speech on Start on Sky TG24, after the controversy sparked by Antonio Tajani’s statements.
Tajani’s precedent and apologies
The Foreign Minister, speaking at the Itaca event in Formello, compared the political choice to that of a woman to marry, associating a less flashy figure and with a longer skirt with greater reliability and the role of mother of the family.
After the controversy, Tajani returned to the topic in New York, on the sidelines of the UN Assembly, apologizing to those who had felt offended and maintaining that he had never wanted to offend women.
«With Calderone we are at nine»
In the interview Vannacci also commented on Calderone’s entry from Forza Italia: «We have reached nine, like the groups of hell. So the tenth will be the devil himself… The dirty dozen grows.”
The leader of FnV then indicated the priorities: «Our objective is not to form a group, our priority is to carry out national politics and be incisive in Parliament and pass our resolutions and our amendments».
The no to the electoral law: «fake preferences»
Vannacci reiterated his opposition to the electoral law: “We are consistent: if we said that we don’t vote for this electoral law, we won’t vote for it.” A law which, in his opinion, “with these fake preferences, does not allow sovereignty to be given to anyone”.
Citing a Youtrend survey, the FnV leader claimed that “95% of the representatives will be appointed by the secretariats and only 5% by the citizens”.
«We don’t like this law – he insisted – and we won’t vote for it. Then we will see the evolution if it is approved. But it is a law that seems to have been created to counter Vannacci and not to provide a service to citizens.”
Aid to Ukraine: «Resources to be allocated to families»
Vannacci then criticized the aid to Ukraine, initially indicating direct contributions at 4-5 billion, a figure later corrected to 3.5 billion. «These resources, if not sent to Ukraine, could be used in Italy. If we put it all together it’s an extremely large sum that I would prefer to give to our families.”
«I would also prefer to review the Stability Pact not for Ukraine, but to intervene on the cost of energy, for aid to families, for industry and small and medium-sized enterprises», he added.
The FnV leader concluded by claiming that that money would “often end up in gold dumps, evenings with prostitutes and corruption”.
