Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has asked Moscow, China and Iran for help at the height of the crisis with the United States. The Washington Post claims this, according to which Maduro wrote a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin with some requests. These include an upgrade of defensive radars, the repair of military aircraft and, potentially, even missiles.

According to the Washington Post, the Venezuelan government has also turned to China and Iran asking for military aid. To Chinese President Xi Jinping, Maduro proposed “military cooperation” between the two countries to counter the “escalation between the United States and Venezuela”.

The news comes in the same hours in which the Wall Street Journal published the news that Donald Trump is thinking of attacking Venezuela, accused of “exporting drugs and criminals” to the United States. News that the President himself denied. In fact, Donald Trump has said that he is not considering attacks inside Venezuela, thus denying the rumors. When asked if he was considering such action, the president replied: “No.”

According to documents analyzed by the Washington Post, Venezuelan Transport Minister Ramon Celestino Velasquez recently asked Iran for a supply of military equipment and drones, and planned a visit to Tehran. Venezuela, he reportedly told his Iranian counterparts, needs “passive detection equipment”, “GPS jammers” and “almost certainly drones with a range of a thousand kilometers”. It is not clear from the documents how Iran responded.
