Weekend of intensified checks in the center of Vibo Valentia, where the State Police has implemented a new extraordinary surveillance and public order service, ordered by the Police Commissioner Rodolfo Ruperti, to guarantee safety in the city’s nightlife areas.
The activity, which also involved the main access roads to the capital, had the aim of preventing and combating phenomena of alcohol abuse, drug dealing, fights and acts of vandalism. Men and vehicles of the State Police are in the field, with the support of the “Southern Calabria” Crime Prevention Department, the dog units, the Traffic Police, the Carabinieri, the Financial Police and the Local Police.
During the checks, 596 people were identified, of which 90 with criminal records, and 308 vehicles. Twenty-two drivers were subjected to breathalyzer tests, various Highway Code fines were imposed, and subjects subjected to restrictive or preventive measures were checked, including house arrest, special surveillance and referral to social services. An administrative check was also carried out at a business in the city centre.
During surveillance activities, around 2.30 on the night of November 9, the Flying Squad officers noticed a man outside a premises intent on consuming drinks together with other people. The individual, already subjected to the prevention measure of special surveillance with the obligation to return home by 9.00 pm, was immediately recognized and stopped.
Upon seeing the police, the man refused to provide the documents and reacted with violence and threats towards the operators. With the intervention of other crews, the subject was stopped and taken to the police station.
After the investigations, he was reported for contempt of a public official and for violation of special surveillance obligations, as well as arrested in flagrante delicto for resisting a public official. The man was then made available to the Judicial Authority.
