In the last 36 hours the city of Palmi has faced a serious water emergency that has caused serious inconvenience to the population. At the basis of the problem there was not an internal failure of the municipal network, but a series of sudden and unpredictable malfunctions to the Enel electricity grid, which feeds the water distribution systems. An emergency aggravated by the high temperatures of the last few days, which have put under pressure both the electrical and water network.
The technicians intervened relentlessly, also resorting to temporary electogens to guarantee the bare minimum of the service. Today, the power supply was finally restored, allowing the deactivation of generators and the regular recovery of water distribution. The disbursement will return stable throughout the municipal area in the shortest possible time.
The mayor of Palmi, Giuseppe Ranucciowanted to clarify that what happened in these hours should be kept distinct from another question, much more structural and persistent: water deficiency. “It is a problem with which, unfortunately, we live together – he said – and that in some moments forces us to limit the delivery to maintain the balance of the entire system”. In this context, the daily action of the administration is concentrated, in collaboration with the aqueduct, through interventions aimed at reducing losses, the contrast of the abusive connections and the increase in water scope in the most fragile areas.
“We face the situation with seriousness and determination – continued the first citizen – but also with the firm will not to surrender to the idea that this must become a chronic condition. Our goal remains to guarantee a modern, fair and continuous water service throughout palms”.
In this regard, the mayor Ranuccio has announced his intention to request the opening of a technical table with Sorical, in order to shed full light on what happened, understand the measures provided to prevent new emergencies and confront each other on concrete interventions, in particular to resolve historical critical issues such as those that affect the Vitica area.
Finally, Ranuccio wanted to publicly thank the citizens for the understanding shown during the emergency. “In these hours I have received many reports and complaints, all legitimate and understandable. I know what it means to remain without water, because I too live in Palmi and I lived the same discomfort. Everyone I address sincere thanks for patience”.
