“Bridge of illusions. Destruction, war, cement. We want water, not the armament!”. This is one of the writings that appeared on one of the banners shown by the demonstrators of the No Bridge assembly for the event in progress in Messina. The procession started at 6 pm from Piazza Cairoli and aims to reiterate the refusal of the work. The organizers underline how, in a Sicily where water scarcity remains an urgent question, the priority should be guaranteeing access to water rather than investing in great infrastructures.
The appointment comes a few days after the approval, by the Cipess, of the final project of the bridge over the Strait. From the contrary front to the stable connection between Sicily and Calabria, new criticisms arrive on the numerous unresolved points of a regulatory, environmental, technical and financial nature, as well as complaints of “political pressure” that would have favored a forced acceleration of the process.
