Flurry of workplace checks and widespread irregularities in the Cosentino area. This is what emerged from checks on construction sites and in the setting up of beaches and bathing establishments which, in the last two weeks, have been intensified by the Territorial Labor Inspectorate of Cosenza.
The areas affected: 18 irregular construction companies out of 19 controlled. 9 beaches out of 10 not up to standard
Of the 19 construction companies checked, 18 were found to be irregular. Nine out of 10 beaches-bathing establishments were irregular. The inspection activity, coordinated by the Iam of Reggio Calabria, concerned the Tyrrhenian and Ionian coasts of Cosenza and the urban areas of Cosenza-Rende, Corigliano-Rossano and Castrovillari. Also examined – explains the Inspectorate in a note – 54 work positions, of which 28 were found to be irregular; of the latter 18 were without insurance coverage and without regular employment. Suspension of activity was triggered for 12 companies: six for illegal work, two for serious safety violations and four for both illegal work and serious safety violations. The additional sums imposed for the suspension of business activities amount to 44,000 euros. Thirty-nine provisions adopted regarding health and safety in the workplace which mainly concerned violations due to the lack of the DVR and the POS; for failure to carry out health surveillance; lack of training and information for workers; lack of safety devices; for decks and scaffolding that are not up to standard and construction sites without fences; for the storage and evacuation of waste material and for the technical-professional unsuitability of the entrusted companies. The disputed fines amount to over 98,000 euros. Eighteen maxi-sanctions were imposed for the employment of illegal workers, amounting in total to 70,200 euros. For other confirmed administrative violations (working hours, omitted/unfaithful registrations on the LUL) the administrative sanctions amount, however, to 67,100 euros.
