Zes in Calabria, a challenge weighed down by the lack of infrastructure

Calabria will have to find its dimension in the perspective of the single Zes but it will also need to see its infrastructure endowment strengthened, otherwise the best connected territories will always have an easy game. It is a challenge within a challenge that awaits our region that from the single Special Economic Zone for the South expects an important stimulus for its economy. Calabria is after all the “bridgehead” of Italy, and of Europe, in the Mediterranean and together with Sicily it could therefore play a key role.
But the challenges are many. The recent approval of the Strategic Plan of the Single Zes – which will have to be launched with a specific Prime Ministerial Decree – traces the path to follow in the next three years. And this could already be a critical time horizon: an entrepreneurial choice requires stable and long-lasting prospects. But, as explained by Minister Raffaele Fitto, the instrument adopted is in any case “flexible” and the objective is also to guarantee continuity. Industrialists will still have to wait and see what actually happens.
