Reducing food waste is no longer just a good practice, but a national and global necessity, linked to environmental protection, health and social justice. It is from this awareness that the XIII National Food Waste Prevention Day was born, dedicated this year to the theme “#2030Calling”, a direct reminder of the objectives of the UN Agenda 2030 and the 50% reduction in food waste. Messina also joins it, entering into the framework of the initiatives promoted at a national level by the “Zero Waste” campaign of Last Minute Market. The initiative promoted by the Municipality with the University and the Antonello Institute of Higher Education was presented by Mayor Basile with Councilor Liana Cannata, Giusy Di Bella and Nicola Cicero, professors of Food Chemistry from the Unime BIOMORF Department.

During the conference, the educational value of the initiatives aimed at schools was also underlined: a special contribution will be given by the Antonello students, who, together with the artistic director Saverio Pugliatti, will curate a graphic exhibition, designed as a tool to raise awareness through visual language.
