Nine community hospitals and 26 community homes financed by the Pnrr enter the new territorial assistance network of the ASP of Cosenza. The plan, which introduces 180 additional beds into the system and involves around 400 general practitioners and 500 new healthcare workers including nurses, health professionals, physiotherapists and specialists, was illustrated by the extraordinary commissioner of the provincial healthcare company, Vitaliano De Salazar.
«From today nine of these structures – said De Salazar – are already operational. 85% will be operational within 15 days, and by September 30, four or five community hospitals will be operational. We are opening 35 new sites without losing a single euro of community funds. This signals a change of direction in the Calabria Region. After years of intense work we have hired 500 healthcare workers and have entered into an agreement with around 400 general practitioners. It was a truly impressive effort and I am pleased to have the mayors here to demonstrate that, beyond political affiliation, this is an important result for the region, the territory and the communities”
. «The objective – he added – is to lighten the emergency rooms and reorganize them on the basis of data coming from the community houses. For the first time, the public sector takes responsibility for what until now was carried out exclusively by the accredited private sector.” The overall investment for the province of Cosenza was over 81 million euros.
«We have achieved – said the regional councilor Marcello Minenna on the sidelines of the event – the ambitious targets we had set ourselves, especially considering that Calabria has chosen to launch new initiatives and significant interventions in the healthcare real estate sector. Unlike other regions, we have decided to create new compendiums and sites, not just to renovate existing areas. However, the work is not yet finished. The Pnrr is an integral part of a broader strategic planning of healthcare construction, strongly desired by President Occhiuto. Its coordination at the regional level was key to achieving these results. Cosenza – he added – is the province that has created the largest number of real estate complexes, not only in terms of square meters, but also for the range of services that will be offered. The Pnrr is part of a reorganization plan not only for healthcare buildings, but also for the services we intend to provide, including through telemedicine tools and other innovative technologies we are working on.”
