The great Jubilee of Hope opened today in Messina as in all the dioceses. Su Rtp the live broadcast was broadcast of the rite begun in the co-cathedral of the SS. Salvatore with the proclamation of the Gospel and the reading of some passages of the Jubilee Bull “Spes non confundit”.

The ritual

Two thousand faithful, or perhaps more, coming from all over the diocesan territory of Messina and the province, including the Islands. They are the pilgrims of hope who have crossed the door of the Cathedral. The ordinary Jubilee 2025 opened today in the diocese of Messina Lipari Santa Lucia del Mela as in all the other dioceses. A dense but composed procession which from the co-cathedral of the Santissimo Salvatore to the Archimandritate reached Piazza Duomo accompanying the large Crucifix symbol of Holy Year. Eight groups of ten people took turns holding the material and symbolic weight of the Cross, up to the young people who carried it into the Cathedral where it was enthroned. Priests, religious men and women, deacons, consecrated men and women organized in groups arrived in the early hours of the afternoon, escorted by the police and volunteers from the civil protection associations. They thus obtained plenary indulgence, the same that every pilgrim will be able to receive throughout the year upon entering the Cathedral and the co-cathedrals of the Blessed Sacrament. Salvatore, Lipari and Santa Lucia del Mela, as well as the major basilicas and diocesan sanctuaries which will become places of pilgrimage on the occasion of the patronal feast. Archbishop Giovanni Accolla who presided over the rite, recalling the value of the Jubilee of Hope, “a true act of conversion of our lives, which must be enriched by the desire to meet our neediest brothers, establishing relationships of justice and peace through spiritual and material works of mercy”. The ritual, broadcast live on Rtp and on the Gazzetta del Sud website, will be repeated tonight at 11.30pm.
