Also for the Italy Lottery 2024 the first category prizes were confirmed as follows: 1st prize 5 million, 2nd prize 2.5 million, 3rd prize 2 million, 4th prize 1.5 million and 5th prize 1 million euros.
In total, the “Committee for the completion of operations relating to deferred draw lotteries” has decided to award 280 total prizes by adding a category of 50 prizes of 50,000 euros.

Waiting for the millionaire draw

Anticipation is growing for the traditional appointment with the Italian Lottery which, like every Epiphany, will give away six-figure prizes with the most coveted being 5 million euros. The appointment is with the special episode of the Rai program “Affari Tuoi”, during which the winning tickets assigned to the relevant prize pools will be drawn. The ‘dream’ of hitting the jackpot seems to continue to make its way into the hearts of Italians. This year too, in fact, the data relating to ticket sales recorded a further increase of 29%, with 8.6 million tickets sold compared to 6.7 million last year. On a regional level, ticket sales in Lombardy increased by 41%. According to what the specialized agency Agipronews has learned, for the 2024 edition the total reaches 1.4 million tickets, numbers that place the region – probably thanks to the many big winnings last year – in first place in Italy for coupons purchased, displacing Lazio, in second place with 1.2 million tickets (+0.5%). In third place on the podium, like last year, Campania with 900 thousand coupons, for an increase of 39%. Emilia-Romagna and Piedmont follow, with 805 thousand and 623 thousand coupons respectively.

Among the regions with the greatest growth in sales, Basilicata stands out, in first place with an increase of 65% (from 42 thousand to 69 thousand). Great boom also in Umbria, where the number of coupons sold went from 132 thousand to 216 thousand (+64%), and in Trentino Alto Adige, where the quantity grew by 63%. Important numbers also for Sicily (+56%) and Puglia (+55%).

According to data released by Agimeg, the ‘luckiest’ region of the new millennium is Lazio with 8 first prizes won in 25 draws. In second place Campania and Lombardy, both with 4 prizes. There are 10 regions still without 5 million prizes, namely: Valle d’Aosta, Tuscany, Basilicata, Trentino Alto Adige, Abruzzo, Puglia, Umbria, Molise, Calabria and Sardinia.

Incredible to say, but the Italian Lottery also has some negative records. From 2002 to today, approximately 31 million euros in premiums have not been collected. The negative record – Agimeg always reminds us – is held by the 2008 edition in which the first prize of 5 million euros won in Rome was not collected. In that case the Customs and Monopolies Agency decided to award two first prizes of 5 million in the following edition. It was the only case in the history of the Lottery.
