The Carabinieri of the Vibo Marina station have referred a 40-year-old local entrepreneur, caught at night while preparing bread even though the ASP had suspended his activities last December.
In particular, on the night of 11 December 2024, the Carabinieri of Vibo Marina, with the support of those of the NAS of Catanzaro and the Forestry Unit of Vibo Valentia, as part of the pre-Christmas checks aimed at preventing crimes in the food sector, had checked a business dedicated to the production of baked goods. On that occasion, the workers had found structural and environmental conditions that were alarming to say the least: blackened walls, damaged plaster, accumulated dirt on machinery and floors and, above all, clear signs of rodent and insect infestation, such as excrement and bites in flour sacks. For this reason, the business was immediately suspended with the seizure of 800kg of food, a fine of 8,000 euros, and the owner being referred to the judicial authority, also held responsible for having illegally managed the waste produced by his business.
However, the measures did not make the entrepreneur stop from his illicit conduct, so much so that on the night of last January 16th, he was once again surprised by the Carabinieri of Vibo Marina while he was packaging other baked products. This time, the entrepreneur was reported to the Vibo Valentia Prosecutor’s Office for failure to comply with the authority’s provisions.
What worries the police is the possibility that the company may have distributed potentially harmful food to businesses in the area. This eventuality will be subject to further targeted checks, in the wake of the initiatives to defend public health promoted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office led by the Prosecutor Camillo Falvo.
