The Sibari Service Center devastated by the vandals. An unprecedented episode of vandalism has shocked the community of Sibari. The buildings of the former church of Sant’Eusebio and the adjacent square, recently renewed thanks to the funds of the PNRR, have been brutally disfigured by writings and drawings. The newly restored surfaces were smeared with vulgar graffiti, which caused damage not only materials, but also moral for an entire community. The images of the incident, made public with appropriate complaints to avoid showing offensive content, tell a gesture as free as devastating. To report the incident were some indignant citizens, who immediately warned the municipal administration. The first citizen of Sibari went to the scene to personally verify the severity of the damage. “It’s a massacre. What happened is an offense not only to urban decoration, but to all of us, to the whole Sibarita community, “he said firmly. The mayor stressed that the episode is not only damage to public heritage, but an insult aimed at collective efforts and the use of resources intended for the improvement of the territory. “These documents are unacceptable and represent a waste of public resources, as well as an example of lack of civic sense,” he added, announcing that the municipal administration will use to ensure that the managers are identified and persecuted. In addition to the firm condemnation, the mayor has launched a heartfelt appeal to families and the community, inviting them to play an active role in the education of young people. The city councilors of Forza Italia also expressed their indignation for what happened. In a joint note, Savina Azzolino, Fabio Civale, Sofia Maimone and Stefano Pesce reiterated the importance of promoting the culture of respect and responsibility. The local commissioner of Forza Italia, Francesco Celiberto, underlined the need for a firm condemnation by the whole community.
