On the revocation of the assignment to Marcello Scurria by the President of the Region Renato Schifani, the Honorable Matilde Siracusano intervenes, Undersecretary for relations with the Parliament and Messina deputy of Forza Italia.
“The choice of the president of the Sicilian Region and the extraordinary commissioner of the Government for the restoration of the slums of Messina, Renato Schifani, to revoke the position of sub commissioner to Marcello Scurria, is wrong and incomprehensible.
A decision – evidently suggested by bad advisors or perhaps by new precarious and bizarre political balances – light years away from the territory and which does not take into account the extraordinary work done in recent years for the community.
A choice based, in fact, on motivations of microscopic relevance compared to the extraordinary progress made to break down the slums and to restore dignity to more than 700 families – with women, elderly, children and people with disabilities – who have gone from the sewers of the barracks with roofs In eternity to welcoming accommodation and an authentic hope in the future.
Schifani’s decision, however, risks having very negative repercussions, and to interrupt this virtuous path that had made us known throughout Italy as a model of recovery and social inclusion to be emulated and exported.
No political or professional figure will have the experience gained in years and years spent on the front linethe detailed knowledge of every area of the restoration to which is added the total dedication of Scurria to continue his work with the same timing and with the same concreteness.
In all likelihood, the passage of powers will lead to useless and unacceptable waste of time, and for those who live in the slum even a few months of waiting more will represent a hell that could have been spared them.
A decision also politically inexplicable, also because the renovation of the city of Messina was a battle and a goal of Forza Italiaa battle conducted with excellent results from our ruling class on the territory, by the militants, by all those who have worked with determination for a better city.
It really sorry that the governor has not taken into account all these very important aspects in any way, and sorry that he did not feel the need – despite the law that extended the powers and that transferred them to the President of the Sicilian Region was born thanks to my legislative initiative – to inquire in advance of this incomprehensible decision “.
