Twinning: Designed in Europe around 1950, it represents the official stipulation of a union between two or more communities, in order to collaborate in different sectors – such as the politician, the economic the commercial, the social, the educational …

With this spirit of collaboration and exchange, triggered in a solidarity action, Friday 25 July, the Parish of S. Maria Assunta of S. Giorgio Morgetolined up by the parish priest Don Antonello Sorrentino and that of S. Giorgio Martire (Extra) of Reggio Calabrialined up by Don Michele D’Agostino, will enter into a solemn twinning between the two communities.

The pact between the two parishes, the first belonging to the diocese of Oppido-Palmi and the second to that of Reggio Calabria-Bova, will be signed during the liturgical concelebration which will be officiated by the two priests on the occasion of the Pianigiano town festival, San Giacomo Apostolo and San Giorgio Martire.

As reported in the introduction, the relationship of collaboration and exchange must be only the beginning of a connection that, with the commitment of the two communities, will have to be transformed into a relationship of knowledge and mutual growth, through lasting links over time, also through cultural projects and exchanges, the sharing of experiences and the spiritual and pastoral growth of the community concerned.

Two communities involved by the same devotion for a martyr saint, S. Giorgio in fact, and two towns that celebrate with a compatron: San Giacomo Apostolo, for the Aspromontan village and the Madonna of the consolation for the city of Reggio Calabria.

A pact, the one who will sign the two parish priests, which will be an opportunity to also spiritually unite the Sangiorgese parish with that of the populous neighborhood of the immediate suburbs of the capital of Reggio area, more known as extra because it was once considered outside the walls.

The delegation of S. Giorgio Martire, as already mentioned, will be led by the parish priest Don Michele D’Agostino and with them will arrive, around 17:30, to make the twinning even more solemn, also the relic of S. Giorgio, for years jealously kept in ecclesial premises.

The concelebration, scheduled for 18:00, which will also participate civil and military authorities, will be chaired by Don D’Agostino. Immediately after the statues of the two saints they will be brought to procession through some streets of the town.

A gesture, that of the twinning which, as reported by the manifesto published by Don Antonello, recalls not only the common link of the communities to the patron saint San Giorgio Martire, but also intends to underline the beauty and unity of the Church, beyond the geographical distances, in the cooperation for the construction of the kingdom of God in a world wounded by discord and violence, as reported in the manifesto published by the parish priest of S. Giorgio.
