Almost three days of Dante’s hell in the hills close to the inhabited centers of some towns of the Upper Jonio Reggio. For about 60 hours the north part of the Locride was in the grip of the fires. Tens of thousands of square meters of Mediterranean scrub, vineyards, olive groves and cultivated fields devoured by the flames of a fire stuck in several places, which has not spared some country houses and killed dozens of wild and courtyard animals. The damages are huge, in terms of hundreds of thousands of euros.
To be more affected were the hilly areas and some districts, where among other things there are dozens of families, the municipalities of Roccella, Caulonia and Marina di Gioiosa. Yesterday afternoon, moreover, on the outskirts of Ardore, due to another fire close to the coast, Anas was forced to close for a few hours, in both directions, the state road 106.
In the hilly suburbs of Roccella several families spent the night between Tuesday and yesterday, after having momentarily leaving their homes, in the car or in the homes of relatives or friends. To tame the fires, the prolonged intervention of numerous teams of the firefighters, air vehicles, volunteers, men of the Civil Protection, of Calabria Verde was necessary.
