Two excellence of the territory, The reality of the Magna Græcia University of Catanzaro and that of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, They officially joined to start an ambitious musical and cultural project: the University Choir of Magna Græcia. An initiative open to all, regardless of previous experiences in the sector, involving students, teachers, administrative in a new harmony. The choir represents a project that promotes the sense of community, enhancing the talent and artistic expression of those who live, in various capacities, the University Campus of Catanzaro.

The objectives of this project are manifold: to promote musical culture, offer an opportunity to appreciate and practice choral singing, develop skills and improve vocal, listening and team work skills, create identity and group sense. THEThe University Choir of the Magna Græcia was born on the basis of the collaboration started between the University of Catanzaro and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, following the stipulation of an agreement between the two realities, united by the common will to contribute to the development of the territory through joint initiatives capable of raising the cultural level. The hearings to join the UMG choir took place in recent days in the theater of the University multimedia area and were held by the masters Filippo Arlia, Francesco Villella, Giuseppe Bono, Luigi Vincenzo and by the commission composed of the rector of the UMG, prof. Giovanni Cudaby the director of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Dr. Valentina Currentifrom Dr. Barbara Saccà and by prof. Giuseppe Chiarella.

“We are really happy to have started this project that has allowed the Magna Græcia University to have a choir, as well as the best universities in the world – said the magnificent rector of the UMG, prof. Giovanni Cuda. It is a dream that comes true, a new way to make culture and music, made possible thanks to the extraordinary collaboration with the Tchaikovsky Conservatory that we thank for the work he has already done and for what he will do ».

“The University Choir of Magna Græcia will first of all be a living and dynamic musical laboratory, where the practice of choral singing will become an instrument of training, expression and sharing -said the director of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory Dr. Valentina Currenti -. Through the corality, the participants will learn to be part of a harmonious whole, to breathe together, to build a common sound that arises from the sum of the individual voices. We are convinced – underlined the director Currenti – that this choir represents only the first step of a path full of common musical initiatives, capable of leaving a concrete and lasting sign in the cultural panorama of our territory “.

The University Choir of the Magna Græcia will take care of the opening of the most important events of the University of Catanzaro and, thanks to the collaboration with the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, will start innovative and original musical projects. The first event in which the University Choir of Magna Græcia will take part will be the concert with the Calabria Philharmonic Orchestra scheduled for Friday 5 September 2025 in Piazza della Resistenza in Praia a Mare, as part of the AFAM International Campus of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory entitled “It was my father – Ennio Morricone”, directed by Andrea Morricone.
