For some it is an absolute novelty, for others a return stubborn where we had to surrender, for someone the rediscovery of their roots. The strait awaits them. The appointment is set for tomorrow, from 11 onwards, when in 15 they will wait for the way from the boatmen to do The crossing of that stretch of sea that binds Torre Faro beach to that of Cannitello: three and a half kilometers that cannot be shortened but that usually increase for the game of currents.

They are all Friuliin the vast majority of Goriziani, who live in that slightly Italian territory, a little Slovenian, where the sea can only be dreamed, especially if it is night blue like the one that divides Sicily from Calabria. To launch the challenge are Alessandra Gargiulo, Luca Ziani, Antonio Colonna, Davide Colussi, Gianluca Gregorig, Mauro Montanari, Antonella Franco, Paolo Franco, Matteo Cocetta, Stefano path, Sandra Gondolo, Guido Genovese, Salvatore Mula and Alessia Mezzarana led by their coach Rudy Barone.

All registered with the ASD Gorizia Nuoto, registered with the National Fund National Federation. They have been training for months, first in the pool, then in the waters of the Gulf of Trieste, after work and on weekends.

A dream that some of them have seen broken for the sea conditions a few years earlier. But for a Friulian the word surrender does not exist and, therefore, here they are ready to get back into the game, hoping to tame the sea together with the new entries.

Debutant is also one who has known this sea for decades. Guido Genovese, 37 years old, a passion not only for swimming but also for surfing, is a Friulian son of Messinesi (the official father of the state, the teaching mother of letters)transplanted to the lower Friulian. «For me Messina meant the beginning of the holidays, the light -heartedness. I came here as a child, and I continue to come there with the same spirit with which I lived those summer days together with my grandparents ».

Guido, therefore, the Strait knows him well, also thanks to his uncle Renzo who had the habit of crossing him on the Windsurf table. «A unique place that must be respected, I also told my adventure companions. It is not a crossing, it is the crossing par excellence. And every stroke that will shorten the path from Torre Faro to Cannitello will be a re -entry my roots ».
