An asteroid as big as a 15-20 floors will touch the land today, at 13.12 Italians. However, there is no risk of impact: as reported by the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory website, the object indicated with the acronym 2025 OW will move on to the safety distance of about 633 thousand kilometers, almost double the average distance between land and moon which is 384 thousand kilometers.
The size of the asteroid have been estimated at about 67 meters, and its speed reaches 75 thousand kilometers per hour: it will therefore be a very fast step, which will leave available to fans and astronomers only a few hours to observe it.
This celestial body belongs to the Athen family, in which over 2 thousand objects have been cataloged so far: they are asteroids whose orbit is usually internal compared to the terrestrial one, but it can also intersect. It is thought that they come from the so -called main band, that area between Mars and Jupiter that contains most of the known asteroids of the Solar System, and which are then pushed towards the innermost regions due to gravitational interactions with the gaseous giant.
In recent years, an Athen who has become well known is Apophis: discovered in 2004, he will take a very close step with our planet on April 13, 2029, only 32 thousand kilometers. Looking at the list always drawn up by the JPL, it turns out that on the same date of July 28 there is also the passage of a second asteroid, whose ‘flushing will however be much more distant: called 2018 Be5, it is about 43 meters long and will find itself at over 4.1 million kilometers. A double passage will also take place on 26: 2025 OU1 will be held almost 2.7 million kilometers, while 2025 OX at over 4.5 million kilometers.
