The XXII edition of the Magna Graecia Film Festival enters the heart of the film competition by reaffirming its original vocation to combine the experience of historical figures of Italian cinema with a careful exploration of new tendencies and emerging languages. A delicate, but increasingly necessary balance: «The first works – explains the artistic director Gianvito Casadonte with a sovereian stage – are difficult because, after being produced, they are put in a drawer and forgotten. Our purpose is to encourage young authors in a land like Calabria. By opening this drawer we give visibility to the future Masters of cinema ».

Meanwhile, after the engaging Masterclass of Kim Rossi Stuart, who offered an introspective look at the actor’s profession and on the role of the direction as an extension of his artistic vision, the festival focuses on the competitive section, articulated between cinema of reality, author fiction and multidisciplinary paths. A day between identity, marginality and generational metamorphosis that opens at 6.30 pm with “SICE DI ME” by Isabella Mari for the documentary section, which investigates the multiple dimensions of gender identity, placing itself as an example of cinema of the reality that is grafted in the contemporary socio -cultural debate, maintaining a balance between the ethics of representation and formal rigor. At 9.30 pm for the international section “Il Mohicano” of the French Frédéric Farrucci, who returns to confront urban marginality in a film that moves between fiction and social realism. In the Arena del Lungomare space in the Italian section, at 9 pm, with “The boy from the pink trousers” by Margherita Ferri, guest of the evening. After the first “Zen on thin ice” work, Ferri continues his investigation into the Coming-Of-Age, the transition to adulthood and on the dynamics of social inclusion, placing the emphasis on the body and fluid identities. The film stands out for the construction of an essential visual language and the ability to deal with complex themes with delicacy and depth.
Still the masterclass to give the stylistic figure to the Festival, with Marco Giallini: an opportunity to analyze the artistic path of one of our most multifaceted interpreters, capable of moving naturally between drama and comedy, embodying a human and contradictory anti -hero.
