The 23rd edition of the Horcynus Festival has started in recent days which, as usual, takes place at the Horcynus Orca park in Capo Peloro. The theme of this year, chosen by the artistic directors Giacomo Farina and Franco Jannuzzi is “Utopias, dystopias, eutopias”. This edition proposes a rich and articulated program and, in an increasingly rich global context, the HF stands as a complex re-composition space of knowledge, capable of accompanying “visions” and necessary processes of transformation of economic-social, energy, technological and governance paradigms of the territories. Today, at 9 pm, as part of the audiovisual productions of the advanced social district, Vincenzo Nibali will be screened: the 7th champion “(2024) by Marco Spagnoli, 54 ‘in collaboration with Rai Documentari. Marco Morano, Pierangelo Pirak, Saverio Tavano, representatives of the Fiab Messina Ciclable Association, of the Nibali team, the Italian Cycling Federation and the MTB Sicily Association will be present. Following, there will be the screening of the film Orwell 1984 by Michael Radford. Today’s appointments also include, from 18 to 19.45, the educational laboratory for children (from 7 to 11 years) on the book “Il Dream of Trudi” by the Intervolumina APS association. From tomorrow 30 July to Friday 1 August “La Nueva Ola” is scheduled, the Spanish and Latin American Film Festival, curated by Federico Sartori and Iris Martín-Peralta (Exit Media). On the inaugural evening, the Horcynus Festival 2025 award will be awarded to the memory of Carlos Saura, which will be collected by her daughter Anna. From 31 the workshops will begin “Le Jurnate del Design” by the collective “Komad – Koller but Anke Design”. Founded by Luca Fois, Camilla Guerci and Giadamaria Battiato, on the inspiration of the Messina Foundation, this new reality was born with the aim of involving young people, designers, to promote the culture and method of design, anthropology and other related disciplines, to transform visions into real, but also utopian projects, in Sicily and beyond. An international event that will represent a call for all creatives who see design as a tool for social transformation and not just as an aesthetic practice. Already last May the main actors of the Mediterranean met in Messina to co-design and launch a fund of “Venture Philanthropy” for local systemic, solidarity and just local development for the territories of the Mare Nostrum. This project, between the last decade of July and the early August, will live its performative session during the Festival, including cinematographic projections, concerts, art events and international guests “.
