From yesterday evening, around 7pm, Fire Brigade teams of the Catanzaro Command – detachment of Lamezia Terme – with the support of units in AIB set -down (Boschivo firefighter), were engaged in the shutdown of a vast vegetation fire developed within the area of the former sugar factory of Lamezia Terme. The flames affected about 10 hectares of uncultivated land, brushwood, reeds and low Mediterranean scrub, as well as huge quantities of abandoned waste, propagating dangerously near the tracks of the Lamezia Terme Centrale railway station. Despite the proximity, there have been no particular inconvenience to railway circulation. Over 22 units of the firefighters operated on the spot, supported by 6 vehicles, until 5 am this morning. The now extinct fire is currently proceeding with the remediation operations of the area and with the extinguishing of the last residual outbreaks.
