Ferragosto, 12 million on vacation: but 30% from friends and relatives. Still increase: from flights, to hotels

Ferragosto on vacation for many yes, but it will not be a hotel, holiday home, B&B or farmhouse. It will also mean relaxation in a second home or hosted at the home of relatives or friends. The forecasts on the central week of August continue to flock, with a little different numbers, but the constant always seems the same: on the wallet they are forced to look at everyone.

According to the Tourismo Confcommercio Observatory in collaboration with SWG there are 12 million Italians on vacation, but despite the time it is, in reality, rather wide – on average 13 days – the average expenditure is around 570 euros per capita due to the substantial use of second -handed houses, or the hospitality of friends and relatives: 28 cases out of 100. An interviewed out of four declares instead of spending the period in the hotel. B&B, short -term rentals and agritourisms represent, respectively, 14%, 12% and 11% of the choices. The sea is chosen by 45% of the interviewees, followed by the mountain at 19% and the countryside at 9%. Places immersed in nature, city of art, small villages, lakes and cruises complete, with percentages of decreasing choice, the panorama of destinations. Puglia, Calabria, Trentino Alto Adige and Sicily are at the top of the ranking of the most popular regions for the Ferragosto holidays. Spain, Greece and France, in order, for that 18% that opts instead for the holidays abroad, mainly in Europe.

Good performances also planned by the Centro Studi Tourist Study of Florence for Assotorismo Confesercenti: the return of the heat and the week of mid -August give a push to tourism, but the internal demand continues to move with caution, while the role of foreigners grows. The bridge of 15-17 August sees over 12.4 million overnight stays in Italian accommodation facilities, with an average employment rate of 88% of the offer of accommodation available online. Also in this case it is noted that in the marine areas the slightly more internal locations are rewarded and there is a strong return of the holiday in the second home. Fipe Confcommercio makes the calculation of the Ferragosto lunch: over 5 million, among residents and tourists, are the customers who sit in the over 91 thousand open restaurants, equal to 70% of the total. Most offer an “All Inclusive” menu at an average price of 61 euros per person for an estimated total expenditure of 314 million euros. Finally, the Unc, National Consumer Union, has drawn up the ranking of cities that had the major increases regarding hotels: in 4 years hotels with more increases in Venice (+64.7%), Milan (+60%) and Florence (+58.8%). In the last year, however, more increases in Lucca (+20.2%), Caserta (+13.7%) and Rimini (+10.9%).
