This morning the Hon. Stefania Marino, national deputy of the Democratic Party, and Armando Hyerace, provincial secretary of the Democratic Party of Messina, carried out an inspection at the Gazzi District House. The visit had been announced following the suicide of the Argentine prisoner.
“A fact that marks a double defeat for the state, both in terms of justice for the young Sara Campanella and on that of the protection of those who are entrusted to the institutions. To the families of both these young people, my thoughts go, with all the sense of responsibility that the role of parliamentarian imposes on me,” commented the Hon. Marine.
During the inspection, the two dem had the opportunity to dialogue long with a penitentiary administration deeply marked by the incident.
“While presenting overall conditions better than many other penitentiary institutes – also thanks to the commitment of the management and staff, whose serious professionalism is tangible even without enormous daily difficulties, – the structure of Gazzi highlights some structural critical issues of the national penitentiary system:
• insufficiency of the organic plant, both for prison police staff and for operators;
• urgent maintenance needs of the structures;
• serious lack of educational and negotiating staff, fundamental for the path of social reintegration of prisoners “
The Hon. Marino has made the commitment to bring the problems encountered to the attention of the Minister of Justice, through a parliamentary question aimed at soliciting concrete and immediate interventions.
For his part, Hyerace has known that the Dem Council Group will solicit the municipal administration with the start of a counter that also guarantees for the prisoners of Gazzi, the services provided by the municipal offices.
