Moments of fear, yesterday evening, at the Paola district house, where a prisoner of foreign nationality has set a fire inside his cell. The gesture, not preceded by signs of discomfort, began with the combustion of personal effects, sheets and pillow, generating a dense cloud of toxic smoke that has spread throughout the section.

The immediate intervention of the prison police officers, assisted by other units, has made it possible to turn off the flames with a fire extinguisher and evacuate the adjacent cells, bringing the prisoners to the courtyard walking and avoiding dramatic consequences.

Some policemen, who remained intoxicated by smoking, were immediately subjected to medical treatment. The regional secretary Fabio Viglienti and the provincial secretary Marco De Seta (Sinappe) expressed closeness to the agents, praising their professionalism and readiness. The union requests the immediate transfer of the prisoner and the application of the disciplinary sanctions provided for by the penitentiary system.
