The Regional Directorate of the Democratic Party Calabria, brought together to Lamezia Terme, unanimously approved the report of the secretary Nicola Irto on the imminent regional elections. With this act, the Calabrian Democrats officially give the Secretary to bring the name of Pasquale Tridico, M5S MEP to the coalition table, as a candidate for president of the Region and to work to broaden the coalition to the maximum.
“United you win”
“What must be highlighted – said Irto – is that we go to vote for fear and despair by President Occhiuto, who dragged Calabria into a summer election campaign only for personal purposes. On the contrary, we need to make a broad political proposal. The Democratic Party worked to put together 12 acronyms, all the alternative forces to the right around the same table ».
The secretary reiterated that the Democrats had also advanced internal candidates, but in the end they chose to privilege the unit: «We must treasure the errors of the past, when the divisions led to defeats. United you win. With Pasquale Tridico we put on the pitch a recognized figure as above the parties, capable of collecting a very wide consensus and leading a change project for Calabria ».
The support of the National PD
Irto also underlined the harmony with the national secretary Elly Schlein: «We were stubbornly united, the secretary was totally in line with the Calabrian Democratic Party. We worked together to build a very large coalition, with the aim of giving Calabria a government of change and raising it from the shallows in which it brought it Occhiuto ».
A shared political path
The Regional Directorate then approved the political line traced by Irto and conferred the secretary a full mandate to continue on this path. “This choice – reads the official note – must give a government of clear change to Calabria”.
