It was supposed to be an afternoon of play on the beach, but turned into a tragedy. In Muriwai, on the western coast of Auckland, the 28 -year -old Kane Watson died after being trapped by the sudden collapse of a sand dune while digging with his children.
The accident occurred in the late afternoon: the sand collapsed on him burying him upside down. Staying below for about a quarter of an hour, he was extracted in critical conditions and transferred by helicopter to the Ucckland City Hospital, where he died the next morning.
To make the story even more dramatic the presence of the four children, the smallest of just 18 months, and the partner Jazmine, who witnessed helplessly to the scene.
