For almost 14 hours a young Liparese ecological operator, wounded yesterday morning in a road accident while going to the workplace, remained “guest” in the emergency room of the Lipari hospital waiting for it to be able to find a place in Orthopedics in another Sicilian hospital. The patient reported the fracture of tibia and perone, but in the island hospital, however reduced to the minimum terms, it was not possible to subject it to surgery.
For this reason, Lipari’s health workers immediately sought the availability of a bed in the orthopedics departments of other hospitals in Sicily. After a whole series of attempts to be emptied, due to lack of places, the young “ordeal of the young man found a solution with an availability for hospitalization and, therefore, to the intervention, to the Polyclinic of Messina where he was transferred with the 118 helicopter who arrived in Lipari at 19 and 25 Emergencies that have occurred in recent years, sees more and more reduced what is its right to health, as well as to receive timely treatments, despite the commendable commitment of the renovated number of healthcare professionals present in the only Eoodle hospital.
And it is certainly not a solution or the Gessi room, once a week, nor the appreciable project “Archipelago Sicura” for which the provincial health company of Messina and the Regional Committee of the Italian Red Cross have signed a memorandum of understanding, which aims to use telemedicine. Health forces “on the field” are needed, professionals able to give life to a structure, renewed and avant -garde from a structural point of view, but reduced to oxygen as regards the services and where the use of the helicopter rescue, when you can find places in other hospital, has become a constant, and not only in the summer.
And already in the late afternoon yesterday on the disturbing episode, a note of explanation came by the Regional Health Department which reconstructs: “Without the case checks and having ascertained the unavailability of the Papardo di Messina and the hospital of Sant’Agata di Militello, the transfer to the Polyclinic of the capital of the Strait was immediately arranged. The patient’s transport – wrote the councilor Daniela Faraoni – is in progress in these hours. On the impulse of the President of the Region Renato Schifani, we immediately dealt with the case to find a guarantee solution and provide the best possible assistance. And, despite the rather demanding period we live during the summer season, with the accredited private individuals who work with a reduced regime, the public regional health service has proven to be responsive. However, we work in perspective so that the rescue activities can be completed in the shortest possible time even when they concern the minor islands that certainly live further discomfort ».
