The progressive contraction of electoral participation has become a real threat to the functioning of democracy. In the entire Republican temporal span, Calabria has always characterized itself as the region with the lowest rates of participation in the vote, a phenomenon that has been accentuated in the last fifteen years: we went from a participation in the regional of 59.3% in 2010 to 44% recorded in the last three elections, of 2014, 2020 and 2021.
In the next regional elections in Calabria two factors could, however, positively affect electoral participation.
