The question of the reduction of connections from Reggio Calabria to Milan-Late must be addressed from an economic point of view. Ita Airways had written it clearly in the press release published by Gazzetta del Sud on 23 August. “The economic evaluation – said the former flag company – gave a highly negative outcome, with a considerable loss that does not support a maintenance of current frequencies on the route”. For some time, Ita would have claimed, in the constant interlocution held with Sacal, the same treatment reserved for the Low Cost Ryanair company, to which the Calabria Region recognizes the substantial incentives to fly from the “Tito Minniti”. The Cittadella move made a leap forward unimaginable to the Reggio Calabria airport that since the end of April 2024, i.e. by the Appeal of Ryanair, has grown at the rhythms supported, well beyond the initial Sacal estimates.
In this context, that is, with a view to a constant growth of the “Tito Minniti” not only for the number of passenger passengers, but also with a view to an increase in the routes available, the Italian decision cannot be considered good news. Indeed, the announcement of the reduction of frequency in the route for Milan-Late has created discontent in the city and concern in professionals.
