In today’s morning, the Fire Brigade team of the Cosenza Command – detachment of Castrovillari was engaged in a rescue intervention to the person on the Pollino plateau.
A young hiker of Polish nationality, 20 years old, missing since yesterday at about 2,200 meters above sea level in the woods of the area, was identified and rescued.
Received the request for help, the operating room of the Cosenza Fire Brigade proceeded to geolocate the position of the missing. Considering the impervious nature of the area, not reachable by the vehicles from the ground, the intervention of a helicopter was requested.
Upon activation of the Operations Room of the Regional Directorate of the Calabria Fire Brigade, the Dragon VF62 air vehicle of the Flight Department of Lamezia Terme took off. Once the coordinates indicated, the EliSoccorritis proceeded with the recovery of the young man by means of a learned maneuver.
The hiker, in good health but tried by the night spent outdoors in the high mountains, was helped in a safe area and entrusted to the staff of the Castrovillari detachment. Subsequently he was taken over by the health workers of Suem 118 for the care and investigations of the case.
