A safe and free place for teenagers and families is officially open in Catanzaro: this is the day center promoted as part of the “A Beautiful Mind” project, selected by with children in the context of the fund for the contrast of child educational poverty.
It is of a non -judgmental space, created to combat solitude, discomfort and difficulty of adolescence with creative and non -medicalized tools. It is hosted inside the “Maurizio Rossi” multipurpose center of Catanzaro (via Fontana Vecchia) and has opened its doors on Monday 15 September to welcome all young people between 11 and 18 years old who want to take part in the free workshops already activated.
From 14 to 19 every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the Day Center makes available to anyone who wants to participate various reception and animation activities, designed to encourage the encounter, socialization and the creation of a positive climate. Thus workshops will alternate aimed at stimulating creativity, body expression and relational skills. The boys can participate in theater, art, writing, cinema and sports workshops, with proposals ranging from narration to video production, to team games and inclusive motor activities. There are also paths of mindfulness and pedagogical workshops to develop awareness, autonomy and skills of active citizenship. During the entire opening hours, playful, cultural and study support activities will always be available.
The activity of the Day Center does not stop at the relationship with the young and very young people. Thanks to the team made up of several professionals of the social and psychological assistance made available by the many realities of the third sector who are part of “A Beautiful Mind”, groups of meeting and support for families are planned: “We are building car groups in which parents can deal with other parents and feel understood and listened to, groups in which it is possible to support each other in facing an insulation situation or a fear that can be had in accompanying children through a complicated growth path such as adolescence”said Alfredo Avellone, operator of the Calabrian center of solidarity that deals with support for families.
«I have never seen a parent who was prepared to face such a delicate phase of a child’s life – he added -. A phase in which there is an eruption of emotions that often grasp even the young people by surprise. If then external difficulties also take place, everything is more complicated and face it alone is hard: here, we have therefore created a protected and positive space, which can be of great help to families, boys and girls ».
