The new dialysis center of Mesoraca was inaugurated this morning with the traditional ribbon cutting, already operational since the end of last May and today officially presented to the community. The ceremony was attended by the extraordinary commissioner of the Asp of Crotone Monica Calamai, the health director Luigi Rossi, the administrative director Elisabetta Tripodi, the primary of Nephrology Giuseppe Coppolino and the health personnel of the ward.

The Center, located in the renovated premises of Campizzi, represents a fundamental garrison for the territory: allows nephropathic patients, often elderly and with more comorbidity, to receive the necessary care near home, avoiding long and tiring movements towards Crotone and at the same time contributing to reducing the load load on the capital.

This official inauguration – said the extraordinary commissioner Monica Calamai – testifies to the will of the strategic management to bring health services closer to citizens, offering proximity and quality care. The dialysis center of Mesoraca is a precious point of reference for a population with a high average age, but also for patients who fall during the summer periods, and allows us to give concrete answers without overloading the center of Crotone. It is our intention to continue on this path, with the aim of reactivating the nephrology clinic from October, an indispensable service to follow patients in the initial stages of the disease, delay the progression of renal insufficiency and, where possible, avoid entering the dialytic path “.

The department, with 10 active stations plus 2 in the isolation area, currently assists about 16-17 patients, with an average of 12-13 fixed dialysis. It was built according to the model of the limited assistance center (Cal), already successfully experienced in other Italian regions. Daily management, the result of a planned path, is entrusted to a team of five trained nurses, integrated by an organized medical availability system, with the periodic supervision of the primary and another nephrologist. An administrative and organizational planning work, therefore, has made it possible to activate a safe and efficient service.

The CAL center of Mesoraca – explained the primary of Nephrology Giuseppe Coppolino – It is a model that allows you to guarantee therapeutic continuity with high safety standards, even in a context of deficiency of medical personnel. The nurses have been specially educated with BLS-D courses-Basic Life Support & Defibrillation-, so as to be able to manage any urgencies independently until the intervention of 118. Furthermore, the technological equipment of the department allows to progressively develop telemedicine systems, which will further strengthen the monitoring and assistance capacity capacity“.

With its strategic location in the internal areas, the Dialysis Center of Mesoraca represents not only an essential health service, but also a concrete sign of attention to the territory and the needs of the most fragile patients, confirming the commitment of the Crotone ASP for healthcare increasingly close to citizens.
