The controls of the carabinieri among the dense woods and the steep slopes of the Aspromonte Reggino continue incessant. During a targeted operation, the soldiers of the Compagnia di Bianco, with the support of the Eliportato Squadron Cacciatori di Calabria and the 8th helicopter nucleus, identified and destroyed an extensive Indian hemp plantation in the Samo countryside.

The activity took place in one of the most impervious and difficult areas of the province. Inside the site, the military discovered hundreds of plants, almost two meters high and now ready for collection. In the surroundings, also found agricultural tools and water pumps used for care and irrigation, a sign of organized and well -structured cultivation. According to the first estimates, the harvest could have yielded an illegal gain of thousands of euros, intended to feed the drug market in the province of Reggina and in the neighboring areas.

The operation is part of a wider strategy of contrasting illegal crops which, in the last three months, has already led to the discovery and destruction of over 15 Indian hemp plantations, for a total of about 10,000 seized plants, with consequent complaints and arrests of subjects deemed involved in their management.

In particular, the carabinieri intensified their presence both on the Tyrrhenian side and on the ionic one of Aspromonte, where the natural characteristics of the territory are often exploited to conceal extensive drug crops.
