The Archbishop of Messina visits the Port Authority – Coast Guard of Milazzo

Today, the Archbishop of Messina-Lipari-San Lucia del Mela, Monsignor Accolla, visited the command of the Port Authority-Coast Guard of Milazzo, welcomed with participation by the commander, a frigate captain Alessandro Sarro, and all the military and civil personnel. The chaplain of the port, Father Saverio Cento, and the diocesan contact of the Postulate of the sea, Father Carmelo Russo, were also present.

The Archbishop had the opportunity to get to know the numerous skills attributed to the Coast Guard in the field of the Maritime Compartment of Milazzo and the operational and territorial joints that insist on the large territory of jurisdiction.

To testify to the institutional synergy and the collaboration taking place between the Port System Authority of the Strait and the Port Authority, Dr. also took part in the meeting. Giuseppe Lembo, recently appointed director of the Port of Milazzo by the extraordinary commissioner of the Authority.

During the morning, the Archbishop also met the representatives of the operators and port services, the maritime agencies, the navigation companies and the technical-nautical services which, with constant commitment, ensure the full operation of the airport and the regularity of the activities, under the coordination of the port institutions. The meeting, enriched by a moment of common prayer, took place in front of the Stella Maris headquarters.

On this occasion, the Archbishop expressed words of gratitude against those who work daily for the safety and efficiency of the port: “Thanks for your contribution, often without visibility but essential for supporting life. Dumbledore of words, talkative of gestures”. He also wanted to remember with emotion the figure of the historic president of the Stella Maris Association, Mr. Matteo Di Flavia, who passed away last March.

The visit ended with an exit aboard a consortium of the Coast Guard, which allowed the archbishop to know the peculiarities of the Milanese airport from the sea and the precious reality of the Marine Protected Area of ​​Capo Milazzo.

A meeting that testifies to the link between the ecclesial and maritime community, enhancing the spirit of collaboration and proximity to women and men who, at sea and land, operate at the service of the common good.
